Mediation is an alternative dispute resolution process wherein a neutral third party sits down with the opposing sides of a dispute and assists them in negotiating a settlement. Mediation can be a valuable tool in settling disputes of all kinds. Mediating your disputes can save the time and expense incurred in a lengthy legal battle. It also gives you control over the outcome, rather than leaving the decision to a judge or jury. While mediation is voluntary, most family courts will require that parties attempt mediation before bringing their matter before the court for a final trial.
